The route in

Hannah didn't come from finance.
She came from the people most banks ignore.

Before joining the family business in 2018, Hannah spent years working with charities and local authorities, supporting people experiencing homelessness. Helping them find housing. Helping them rebuild stability. Helping them get to a path forward.

It is not the obvious route into specialist finance. It is the one that explains everything about how she runs the firm today.

When you have spent time helping someone secure a roof over their head, when you have sat with what it actually means to not have one, a mortgage stops being a product. It becomes the thing it always was. A contract that turns shelter into a home. A foundation under everything that follows.

The foundation

The firm Hannah leads
started with Peter.

Peter Vandervennin founded The Mortgage Consultancy over 25 years ago. He started his career in financial services at the Prudential, advising on pensions, investments and mortgages. The training was rigorous, the relationships were warm, but the model was the model. Products on a shelf. Clients placed against templates.

He branched out for a reason that is easy to say and harder to live up to: he wanted to build a firm that could offer something more holistic and more human. Less template. More thinking. The kind of advice that starts with a person and works backwards to a product, not the other way around.

Through the 2008 financial crisis. Through Section 24, MMR, the rise of specialist lending. The firm built its reputation the only way reputations actually get built. Case by case. Referral by referral. Decade by decade.
